About
Tracey Stracener,
LCMHC-S
Tracey Stracener, LCMHC-S is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor in North Carolina, providing telehealth therapy to adults statewide. She specializes in EMDR, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, OCD treatment, trauma, and mental health support for teachers and educators.
Before entering private practice, Tracey spent 8+ years as a high school counselor. That background shapes everything about how she works. She understands the particular weight of being the person everyone relies on, and what it takes to ask for support yourself.

Background & Approach
Tracey's path to therapy started in schools. As a high school counselor, she sat with students in the moments that actually matter: crisis disclosures, grief, identity questions, the slow grind of trauma no one had named yet. She became a therapist because she wanted to do that work more deeply, and without the scheduling period.
She is trained in both EMDR and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a combination that is genuinely uncommon. Both are trauma-focused, evidence-based approaches that don't require you to retell your story in detail. EMDR tends to be more client-led; ART is faster and more directive. Having both means the approach can actually fit the person.
She also specializes in OCD treatment using ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention), the gold-standard approach for intrusive thoughts and compulsive patterns. And she works with people navigating religious trauma and faith deconstruction, a specialty that often goes unaddressed in conventional therapy settings.
All sessions are telehealth, available to anyone in North Carolina. The practicality of that is intentional. It removes the friction that keeps people from starting.
Practice Philosophy
"Socially conscious, equity-minded, and unafraid to name it: the current political climate shapes our mental health. This is a space where all of who you are is welcome."
Tracey Stracener, LCMHC-S
Therapy at Paper Moon is collaborative, not prescriptive. The goal isn't to produce a certain kind of person. It's to help you understand what you're carrying and decide what you actually want to do with it.
That means being direct when it's useful, sitting with ambiguity when it's not, and not pretending that everything that brings people to therapy is purely individual. Systems, families, institutions, and history all leave marks. That's part of the work too.
